Form of 2020 Plaque

The center of the 2020 Form plaque features the COVID-19 virus  – the global pandemic being the most significant event of the 2019/2020 school year. The top of the design shows a flock of flying pelicans, representing the distance learning that was a result of COVID-19, and that “pelicans fly together.” The bottom left shows an open book with the initials of 14th Rector Kathleen Carroll Giles, representing the beginning of her term as rector. The bottom right features a horseshoe magnet and a door to represent the magnets that were added to the doors in the dorms. In the three lower corners of the quatrefoil are three books to represent the three rectors that served in the four years that the Form of 2020 was at SPS – the book on the left has the Roman numeral XIII to represent the 13th Rector Hirschfeld, the book on the right has the Roman numeral XIV for 14th Rector Giles, and the book at the bottom has the letter “I” for interim rector Richards.

2020 Plaque Progress: Plaque Completed

The Form of 2020 plaque is now completed. The detail photograph above shows a sample of the painted finish on the plaque –  A section of the central part of the design featuring the COVID-19 virus.

The completed framed plaque will be hung up in the Middle Dinning Hall of Coit, and available for viewing once the school is able to open to outside visitors.

2000 Plaque Progress: Plaque Completed

The Form of 2000 plaque is now completed. The detail photograph above shows a sample of the painted finish on the plaque –  A section of the central part of the design featuring the tree the form planted.

The completed framed plaque will be hung up in the Middle Dinning Hall of Coit, and available for viewing once the school is able to open to outside visitors.

Form of 2019 Plaque

The upper left corner of the Form of 2019 plaque shows a shirt with a multi-gender symbol on it, representing the updating of the school dress code to apply equally to all students regardless of gender identity. The upper right corner shows a rose window, representing the catastrophic fire of Notre Dame cathedral in April of 2019. The upper center shows the Hugh Camp Cup, with Roman numerals III, IV, V, VI, representing that the cup was won by a member of the Form of 2019 each of their four years. The lower left section of the plaque features a football with the numbers 8 – 0 to celebrate the undefeated winning season for the football team in the fall. The lower center shows a closed book with the SPS shield on the cover and a bookmark bearing the initials A C R, represents the service of Amy C. Richards as Interim Rector. The lower right section has a female symbol stylized into the letter S and C, to represent the first time in SPS history that both the President and Vice President of the Student Council were female. In the background of the lower section of the plaque two crossed oars celebrate the new rowing tanks that opened during the 2018/2019 school year.

Form of 2018 Plaque

The upper left corner of the plaque design features a closed book, marking the end of the Rectorship of Michael G. Hirschfeld ’85. To the right of the book is a dorm building with a lock and key, representing the addition of locks on dormitory room doors. The bottom left of the plaque shows the number 6 springing on a trampoline, to commemorate the 6th Form class trip to a trampoline park. The bottom center features the hashtag #metoo, which began to be used on Twitter in October of 2017 and spread into an international movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault. The lower right corner of the plaque shows the New Chapel tower with a clock set at 8:30, to note the later start time for morning chapel.

The Form of 2017 Plaque

The upper left corner of the 2017 plaque features the Isthmian shield to celebrate their win of the Club cup competition. The upper right corner features the democratic donkey and the republican elephant butting heads, to reflect the contentious 2016 election and the partisan politics that has followed. The center ribbon is inscribed with the form word “resilience”, assigned to the Form of 2017 when they began school as 3rd Form students. The lower section of the plaque presents a scenic view of the back of the Friedman Community Center, complete with Hank the heron fishing in the Turkey River. The bottom of the plaque is bordered with the alphabet, with a mortar board in the center, to represent the first time the graduation procession was assembled alphabetically instead of using gender binary pairs.

2017 Plaque Progress: Plaque Completed

The Form of 2017 plaque is now completed.  The detail photograph above shows a sample of the painted finish on the plaque –  A section of the scenic view of the back of the new student center, complete with Hank the heron fishing in the Turkey River.

The completed framed plaque will be presented on June 2nd  during Anniversary Weekend – at which time photographs of the finished plaque will also be published online.  Thank you to the representatives from the Form of 2017 for their help with this project – make sure to stop by the Friedman Community Center to see your plaque if you are visiting that weekend!

The Form of 2016 Plaque

The upper left corner of the 2016 plaque has two puzzle pieces with the letters “SPS” on them to represent the first SPS Puzzle Hunt day. On the upper right side a baseball bat, a section of track, and a hockey stick, spells out the letters “ISL” to mark the School’s decision to leave the athletic organization. The center design features a Bald Eagle and a Tocoro bird (the national bird of Cuba) perched together on an olive branch to represent the normalization of relations between the governments of Cuba and the United States. The bottom of the plaque depicts Tuck and Hargate with a double ended arrow between them, representing the construction phase and exchange of functions between the two buildings.

The Form of 2009 Plaque

The center of the 2009 plaque features a polar bear supporting the earth on his back, representing the newly founded Environmental Stewardship program and the establishment of the Environmental Values Statement for the School. The upper left corner shows a Democratic donkey bearing President Obama’s initials, which represents his 2008 Presidential Election win. The upper right depicts the Lion Capital of Ashoka representing the School’s India Week program. Spanning the bottom is an arrow which represents the cross country team’s win at New England’s.

The Form of 2007 Plaque

The lower section of the 2007 plaque depicts Hargate with an “Open” banner on its roof, representing the reopening of the building after extensive repairs due to the Mother’s Day Flood of 2006.  Above Hargate, on the far left and right, the initials “X” and “C” to commemorate the success of the girls and boys cross country teams.  The upper center depicts the Earth surrounded by a recycling symbol, marks the beginning of the Environmental Stewardship program at SPS. The upper left features the Henley shield, representing the girls and boys crew teams at the Henley Royal Regatta. The upper right corner shows the first iPhone, which was released that year with great fanfare.
